The Inaugural Principals Golf Tournament lives up to its billing

Friday 31st of October 2025 - Climatology wise, the scotching sun forgave us. It was a mixture of a warm and cool breeze and a gently whistling wind, only good enough to keep furthers afloat. People started trickling in at the ZRP Golf Club in Harare as early as 7am. “From all the golf tournaments I have attended, this is the best apparel I have ever received” _, commented one golfer on the Golf T-shirt and a cap given to every golfer. It was as if the designer came from heaven. This was no ordinary tournament. _“I cannot believe that it is Kwekwe Poly which has brought together all these people”, another senior golfer was heard saying. Bankers, automobile giants, State-owned entities, the corporate world, universities, individuals and sister institutions from polytechnics and teachers' colleges respectfully accepted our call and invitation for a good cause. Senior Officials from the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development and Tertiary Education Service Council (TESC) not only did they grace the event, but they also gave it parental blessings. They all swung for innovation. About 120 golfers battled it all out in the classic golf course situated in the capital. Tens of exhibitors decorated the grounds with their colourful publicity material. In his remarks during the closing dinner, the Principal of Kwekwe Polytechnic, Mr Evans Musara saluted all the sponsors, the golfers, various stakeholders and the organising team who made the event a success without whom the event would have been practically impossible. He called for more partnerships between Industry, Commerce and tertiary institutions. An auction was held during the dinner to auction some very much matured wines of the 18th century. They were all sold out in not more than 10 minutes. The DJ knew his audience very well and ayipakura zviri fair mufunge. Our very own Public Relations Attachee of the Uringirozi fame, Mr Ngoni Moreni was there serenading the guests during a dinner held on the first floor of the opulent ZRP Golf Club. The popular Harare Auctioneer, Wero- wero almost auctioned the charming young man as the Harare beauties’ hearts were melting owing to his powerful, but tempting “software” lyrics which were just hitting the right codes. Several winners walked home with top-notch prizes. Our very own Ms Moto and Ms Nyatsuro stood outstanding as female golfers and they modelled all the way to the isle to collect their prizes amidst a huge ovation. In-fact, Ms Moto won 2 prizes. A fourth form student at Camelot High School, Wayne Muchemwa was crowned the Champion. In him we see the Nick Price of our generation. Mr Magugu, was not to be out-done. He was part of the Kwekwe Polytechnic teams dispatched to represent the institution on the golf course. With his background, he fired a “long range missile” shot. Efforts to recover the ball are still underway and on-going. We will keep you updated. The Golf Tournament was a fund raising initiative whose purpose was to purchase a Hydraulic Bending Machine (capacity: 8mm thickness, 2400mm length) and a Guillotine Machine (capacity: 8mm thickness, 2400mm bed length). There is no doubt that significant funds were raised for this purpose.
